My work is influenced by life experience and narratives. Both memories and current experiences are part of the stories I tell through my etchings. When responding to Rembrandt’s “Presentation in the Temple.” I became mesmerized by the richness, fine detail, and concept of ritual. I wanted a mythical feeling in my print “The New Life,” yet make it contemporary, and relevant to my human experience. The human subjects are three other artists from the LGBTQ community that, in a sense, represent me. I used drawings and photography as studies to create the composition for the plate. I used a variety of etching techniques, such as aquatint, white ground, soft ground, and dry point to create depth and richness, as well as hard ground to create the line work.
