Liza Folman Brookline MA 2015 Monotype 15 ¾ x 24” Turner’s landscape “Little Devil’s Bridge” is infused with light, leading us into the distance, creating mood and dramatizing a timeless relationship between the manmade and natural world. My print is inspired by Turner’s use of light, and is a variation on my recent series of monotypes about ancient stone dolmans, which explores their combination of strength and fragility and their relationship to the landscape. The dolman is based on one I visited in Wales, a landscape Turner worked in extensively. The landscape was invented, inspired by Turner in the placement of this dolman by the sea, the drama of the elements and my use of the color known as Turner’s Yellow. The print is built up in several transparent layers, with the ink worked both subtractively and additively, adding depth.
