A literal translation was necessary. This is the bus – tilted, careening. “Dinesh” is the first name of the man who owned the illegally operated bus line. Yadav is his last name. In researching the incident, I came across an interview with Padma Lakshmi, Indian American and television personality who grew up in New Delhi. She described being angered and sickened by the rape and explained, “In Hindi”, India’s prominent language, “there is no actual word for rape. There in lies the problem.”
