Forest Gold #1-4
Forest Gold #1-4
Monique Martin Saskatoon Canada 2014 Reduction Linocut on Gold Mining Maps 9 x 9” each panel Inspired by the work “Im Walde” by Max Klinger, and being in a forest in fall, makes me admire the toiling of birds. I watched an entire area of forest cleared on the outskirts of Paris, I was while in France working on these prints. Each day more and more trees were felled along with the carefully planned and built birds’ nests. The birds would have to start again. As humans, we dislike having to start over and begin again. When a mining company in Saskatoon shut down, they were discarding old maps. The consequential damage to the birds’ environment was inspiration for using the maps with topographical lines that looked like the rhythmic and intentional patterns of a bird nest.
