Kevin Cummins Chester Springs PA 2014 etching and aquatint 8 x 10 " NOTE: Inspired by 2 prints: Robin Tanner ACM 80.11 and S.R. Badmin ACM 81.23 I am responding to two prints: Robin Tanner’s print “Christmas” and S.R. Badmin’s print “Evening Light, Seven Oaks.” Both prints are strong, well-executed etchings of the English countryside. The viewer is somewhat detached and is looking from a distance – they could be a visitor who is just arriving. The triangles and spires of the buildings form an interesting contrast with the surrounding trees. “View of Caen” has many of the same shapes and textures. I especially like the two church towers in “View of Caen” and how they mirror the two spires in “Evening Light.” I also like how the horizon of “Christmas” is high, with “Evening Light” having a middle horizon and “View of Caen” a low horizon. It’s a continuum.
